Ten safest states for bicycle commuters


As a follow-up to yesterday’s post, here are the ten safest states for bike commuters in 2009 as determined by Kory Northrup’s terrific and award-winning research project at the University of Oregon. The data are based on deaths per 10,000 bike commuters.

1. Maine, Rhode Island, South Dakota, and Vermont – 0.00

5. Montana – 1.25

6. Connecticut 1.97

7. Oregon – 2.00

8. Massachusetts -2.23

9. Missouri – 2.88

10. Colorado – 2.89
